Welcome to Cornwallis Museum Online

Cornwallis Museum Online is a dedicated digital platform celebrating the enduring legacy of HMCS Cornwallis and CFB Cornwallis, pivotal training bases in Canadian military history. Established to honor the over 500,000 men and women who trained at this historic site, our museum serves all aspects of the Canadian Armed Forces—Navy, Army, and Air Force. From its origins as a naval training facility during World War II to its evolution into a comprehensive Canadian Forces Base, Cornwallis played a crucial role in preparing generations of service members for duty.

Founded by passionate historians, veterans, and community members, our mission is to preserve, digitize, and share the stories, artifacts, and memories associated with these bases. As the owner of cornwallismuseumonline.ca, and cornwallismuseum.online, we are committed to creating an accessible online archive that brings this rich heritage to life for veterans, families, educators, and history enthusiasts worldwide.

Our History

HMCS Cornwallis was commissioned in 1942 as the Royal Canadian Navy’s primary training establishment on the shores of the Annapolis Basin in Nova Scotia. At its peak during the war, it became the largest naval training facility in the British Commonwealth, accommodating over 11,000 personnel. Post-war, it continued to train sailors and, following unification in 1968, expanded to support all branches of the military as CFB Cornwallis. The base operated until its closure in 1994, leaving behind a profound impact on Canada’s defense capabilities.

Our online museum draws from extensive collections of photographs, documents, personal narratives, and memorabilia donated by alumni and preserved by local archives. Launched in [Year of Launch], we aim to bridge the gap between past and present, ensuring that the sacrifices and achievements of those who served are never forgotten.

Our Mission

To safeguard the historical significance of HMCS and CFB Cornwallis by:

  • Digitizing and curating artifacts for global access.

  • Sharing untold stories of training, camaraderie, and service.

  • Educating future generations about Canada’s military heritage.

  • Fostering a community for veterans and their families to connect and contribute.

We believe in the power of digital preservation to keep history alive, especially in an era where physical access to such sites may be limited.
